  1. In ISIS Beatles case arraignment, Judge Ellis accepted a proposal to declare it a complex case, waive speedy trial & reconvene on Jan 15 to set trial date. In intervening 3 months they'll work on discovery, incl CIPA/classified info. Kotey pleaded not guilty; ElSheikh is up next.

      ElSheikh has replaced Kotey - there's only one room in the lockup with a camera for videoteleconference apparently (judge and lawyers are in the courtroom, behind plexiglass; audio is horrible). ElSheikh also pleads not guilty and requests jury trial.

        Nina Ginsberg, a lawyer for ElSheikh, points out it's going to be really hard to communicate with their clients. no in-person visits to the jail because of Covid; limited access to videoconference or phone lines. Judge Ellis says he will look into it and see what can be done.
