  1. There's obviously a defensible reason for news outlets to be reluctant to show the racist images in the obscure Dr. Seuss books being retired, but instead illustrating the story with images of the famous & innocuous ones that are remaining in print is actively misleading people.

      Decisions about whether to publish offensive imagery/words that are the subject of a news story, like the Muhammed cartoons/Charlie Hebdo, or utterances of the N-word by famous people, are tricky. But IMO better to leave an absence rather than use non-offensive substitutes.
