New/exclusive: At Gitmo, negotiations for a possible plea deal to end the ill-starred attempt to use the dysfunctional military commissions system to prosecute KSM and 4 other CIA-tortured detainees accused of aiding the 9/11 attacks w/ @carolrosenberg nytimes.com/2022/03/15/us/politics/gitmo-terrorism-trial.html

Any plea deal would mean the US gives up on executions. But it would end a case that, more than a decade after arraignment, has proved impossible to get to trial. Ironically, it could hinder the effort to close Gitmo: they have not wanted to go to the Florence supermax prison.

Biden WH is studiously avoiding taking a position - neither encouraging nor discouraging. But we will see whether KSM et al actually want to end the case, which surely provides entertainment for them (lawyer visits etc) and keeps their names in the news.
