When it comes to third-country nationals -- detainees who are neither Syrian nor Iraqi, who make up the bulk of ISIS detainees for obvious reasons -- more and better information is available about the breakdown of wives and children than male "fighters."/2Permalink On twitter.com

NGOs don't have a line of sight onto the adult male prisons the way they do at Al Hol. US officials don't want to offend allies who haven't taken back their people but may yet be persuaded to do so. SDF may have similar reasons for discretion./3Permalink On twitter.com

About 250 men in SDF custody come from Western countries. The largest groups are said to come from France, with about 85; Germany, which has between 3 dozen & 4 dozen; & Belgium & Britain, which have about 2 dozen each. Russia has about 300. Turkey also has several hundred./5On twitter.com
